Billie makes a bolt for the Shak - Saturday, February 11th, 2017

Geoff and Saranna met with us to discuss a little makeover for their dormobile camper Billie. The couple had purchased our Vintage luggage Cooker last year, and liked the funky look in the camper.

So after a relaxed meeting at the Shak, we had a plan of development for the New Year. We are beginning with a brand new metal framed RnR bed, with new upholstery throughout.

Billie is going to have a bespoke buddy seat running adjacent to the Vintage luggage Cooker, but sporting some of our historic vintage books. A new buddy seat cushion will provide a comfy L shaped seat for the couple to chill out.

New upholstered upper side panels will be fitted to house the couples new lighting system. Billie will be ready for the new season, all spick n span.

Ooops think we might have a little damp here Houston

It was not long before we discovered the reason behind Billies musty aroma, as it looks like his floor has been getting a little wet over a period of time.

Once we spotted this Saranna and Geoff were informed, and now we are sealing up the bellows front rivet attachments, a possible cause for water ingress, and fitting a brand new marine ply floor. Follow our Facebook page for updates

G T Gilbern arrives at The Shak - Tuesday, January 10th, 2017

Andrew dropped his classic car this week for some TLC courtesy of The Camper Shak. We have already completed some work for this project a couple of years ago, but now its time for various pieces of the puzzle to come together.

The car was originally featured in a classic car magazine way back in the early 80s, with a 6 page feature on fibreglass kit cars of the era, and with it sporting a new coat of paint its time now to get everything ready for the forthcoming spring weather.

Bespoke crafted headlining will be our first task, next the internal lining of the sliding sunroof, then we can focus on the door panels, insulation and bespoke carpeting, before we finally offer up the rear seating & that is certainly enough to be getting on with.

Chris and Carol dropped of Curtis the other day for a complete makeover at The Camper Shak. The couple love Curtis but felt that his Westy interior layout took up a lot of space with little storage on offer.

Silver bullet hits the Shak - Saturday, June 6th, 2015

Richard travelled up from London last weekend with his newly restored and T25. Coming straight from the restorer with dust in abundance, we are to work our wonders on this empty shell and convert it into a sleek cruising camper.

We will begin with new headlining throughout, a new suite of crafted doorcards, new flooring, PMS electrics, lighting etc. With this in place we are building and fitting one of our “Limousine” RnR beds, with twin drawers at the rear, triple headrests……and sculptured panelling & stitching detail.

To compliment our Limo bed we are fitting a Compact cooker in a matching woodgrain “Arlington Oak” a real fav this year. This wedge has a new sliver / green paintjob, so Richard & his wife have chosen a very bold Dune & Citrus to feature throughout their upholstery.

We’ve plenty to keep ourselves occupied here, so see our Facebook page for updates

Moss Garden Community Project - Friday, December 6th, 2013

The Camper Shak has been commissioned to work on a disused Greater Manchester single Decker Magic Bus, and convert it into a focus point for the Moss Side community.

Joanne Wilkes the community project leader made contact with the Shak a couple of months ago, and during our sites visits we listened carefully to Joanne’s aspirations for the project. We returned with some design suggestions which were floated for approval and soon after we had the green light to begin the transformation.

This is an exciting project as we now have the task of converting this empty bus into a place of interest for the community. We will begin by removing all the seating, upright bars, radiators, old flooring etc.

Then with the bare canvas exposed begin to fit out with new anti-slip flooring throughout, with complimentary designed wood upstands in Romano Cherry

With this complete we’ll create a café area at the rear of the bus with bespoke kitchen units along the rear wall, and by re-using some of the seating & rotating them through 90 degrees we can create opposing seating for relaxed coffee breaks or face to face meetings.

There will be a large bespoke storage area at the front of the bus for arts & crafts materials for when the young people in the area begin their creative workshops.

Silver Surfer - Saturday, November 2nd, 2013

Luke bought recently purchasedT5 electricians van with a view for a complete transformation at the Shak. He had been searching for a long time for a clean straight van to convert into a high spec camper.

So we will begin with bulkhead & ply lining removal, then we will cut & fit rear windows, line out the shell, before planning out the furniture & electrics.

When Luke visited the Shak we discussed his vision for his camper, and he has decided on a Smev kitchen unit, with accompanying storage, with a high cupboard at the rear maybe housing a tambour door.

He also loved our new recessed roof lighting and front Power Plinth, and I’m sure these will feature in his project…..watch our facebook page for more updates.

Mazda Bongo a cautionary tale - Sunday, October 6th, 2013

Pam & Driss were looking forward to getting their Bongo back after a conversion from across the Pennies. However when they got their newly fitted camper back home all was not well.

On closer inspection their new interior was not quite what they had expected……so after some soul searching and a referral from a friend they came to the Shak for some advice & help.

When they visited us in our new workshop I frankly couldn’t believe my eyes, as this was sold to them as a fitted interior. The couple didn’t even know till I showed them that the Smev sink & cooker combo wasn’t even secured to the worktop.

Nothing was connected so they had no water, no gas, no fitted cooker.

The rear cupboard has two doors one at the top, and one accessed from the rear…with nothing in-between, so when you put something in the top it falls straight through to the bottom.

The metal framed bed is a nightmare to operate, and the 6mm wood used for bed boards is a rough as a bears behind…….we have better looking off-cuts in our waste bin.

The real tragedy is that this interior has cost them thousands, and they can’t use it. So they have come to the Shak for a professional assessment and a promise to put everything right so they can use their Bongo camper.

Watch our facebook page for updates.

Parsley …..Our latest addition - Friday, October 7th, 2011

We travelled down to Abergavenny the other weekend to collect this lovely 1973 tax exempt convertible beetle. We have plans over the coming weeks to transform this bright yellow beetle into something very special

With new paint in place we will completely re-design & upholster the interior to compliment Parsley’s new coat, the final touch inside will be a new set of hand crafted carpets in a matching green.

To top off the project Parsley will be given a new hand crafted dark green hood with oval rear window and rear quarters, which should make him look very retro indeed. When he’s completed Parsley will join Basil & Bluebell to form a special Wedding hire trio.

Our place by the sea. - Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

So that we had somewhere to lay our heads at Vanfest we converted the company T5 into a luxury beach hut. The essence of any camper is the freedom to stop and explore wherever your fancy takes you, and we always love to be by the coast so it seemed only natural to convert the interior of our T5 following a beach theme.

We began with a textured wood grain “Driftwood” from our extensive range, and from here we hand crafted three pieces of furniture to provide the beach hut essentials :

Somewhere to cook, to store & to rest your head at the end of the day. We achieved all these with our Exclusive kitchen, our low level store & our collapsible bed with under store. When the transformation was finished we trialled the camper at Blackrock sands in Wales and had a great time.

We took Ben our rescue foxhound who was found on that specific campsite back in 2004, our youngest son pleaded that we took him home with us and he’s been a part of the family for the past 7 years. It was great to see him running around the beach and rock pools like a puppy, even though he’s now ten years old.

The T5 proved very comfortable indeed with our massive full width bed, and cooking was a treat using the exclusive kitchen with JK fridge etc. Staying over at Vanfest couldn’t have been easier and the experience has provided many thoughts of new products to come that will enhance the camping experience…so watch this space for more news.

Peugeot is a real Partner - Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Nick loves to walk and climb and travels all round the country in pursuit of his hobby. His trusty Peugeot Partner is a cracking vehicle to transport all his gear, but often Nick felt he just didn’t have enough storage or a place to rest his head.

So after a meeting at the Camper Shak we had a plan to turn this empty Peugeot into a functional outdoor pursuit vehicle. Nick’s brief was to design both a bed and useful storage areas for his gear.

It was not long before we had constructed mock-ups to show Nick for his approval before hand crafting the furniture in his chosen wood colour “Grey Beige Zibrano”.

To make life a little warmer and quieter we insulated all the side and roof panels, before fitting a new set of soft feel door panels finished in a light grey to match the existing trim.

Then with all the furniture in place we will add the final touch with Nicks hand crafted G.T. upholstery, which should make the interior look quite sporty indeed.

Freddie is dreaming of his new interior - Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Freddie is owned by Paula and has been lovingly restored by Paula’s father Doug, and with the exterior sorted it was time to concentrate on the interior.

Paula had specific ideas on how she wanted Freddie to look. She also wanted to incorporate her spare wheel within the kitchen section.

So it was back to the drawing board to come up with a solution…well after some designing we came up with “The Camper Shak Elite”.

This new product ticks all of boxes for Paula and gives her a place for her spare wheel, a Smev triple burner and Smev sink in a combination unit.

The Elite Cooker section sweeps back and joins the Elite Main Store which is much larger than the exclusive…but still leaves enough room for your Camper Shak Rock n Roll bed to extend

Inside was a slightly different story with the original dorma style interior looking a bit tired. Well after an initial visit to the Shak in the bright November sunshine, a plan was drawn up to completely renovate the inside of the bus.

The camper has joined us now in late December for a complete re-fit over the next couple of weeks in readiness for the New Year. We hope to put smiles on everyones faces in the family, when they return in 2007 to pick up their finished camper

This girl has been around a bit…..she may even have spent some time in Cumbria. Robert and Susan have three children who are bursting to get in the camper, and start having adventures.

Well after Robert had looked carefully at the 26-year-old interior it was time for a change. They liked the layout of the Devon Moonraker but wanted to make it suit their family’s requirements.

Robert stripped the camper and sold what was salvageable…and gave all these funds to his chosen Charity.

Now with the camper stripped it was time to think about filling it. Robert and Susan made contact with us at The Camper Shak…and very soon we had some ideas for them to consider.

Robert wanted to fit his furniture round a full width Rock n Roll Bed…..which meant splitting his units up in the remaining space. With the plan agreed on the furniture, Robert now laid his new laminate flooring, securing in place with a door strip from the Shak.
