Furniture & Upholstery for self fitting

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

David made the journey up from Suffolk last week to pick-up his full suite of Exclusive Smev furniture and hand crafted upholstery.

We have some lovely colour combinations here which should be fabulous in the camper. With the hand crafted upholstery sporting real highland tartan inserts, the seating should be comfortable and sumptuous.

Nicola made the long journey down from Aberdeenshire in Scotland for a suite of our ultra light weight furniture for her families bay window camper.

After much deliberation Nicola and the family chose our Swing out smev cooker unit, Compact sink unit with sink & storage, overhead locker, table & step over store for the cab.

Elaine and Colins T5 is finished

Wednesday, December 14th, 2016

Aretha is now finished and back in the Highlands sporting her new interior. Have a look on our Gallery and Facebook page for lots of photographs of those lovely curves.

Look at those Curves

Monday, October 31st, 2016

Our new curved fridge store section, for Elaine & Colin's T5.

Elaine was very specific about not wanting any visible push locks in her furniture layout, and she also did not want to see the fridge door, but instead wanted a curved fridge store.

So we have been designing, trialling and hand crafting and is this final result, we all love it.

You only have to push the lip of the curved panel to gain access to the fridge store, and there is plenty of storage in that door too.

Everything has been crafted on site from our ultra lightweight continental ply, we have some more curves to produce for this special interior, so watch this space for more developments.

Come on show us your curves!

Wednesday, October 12th, 2016

Here are the results of our first in house produced bespoke curved door .... and we like it.

We have recently invested in equipment that will allow us to create bespoke curves. When combined with our vast library of wood grains & solid / abstract colours, means that we are at the beginning of an exciting creative path. We will be able to offer two coloured, curved furniture, all hand crafted onsite.

This particular curved angle will feature in Elaine & Colins T5 ... but exactly where, we'll keep under wraps.

Letter from Australia

During December 2015 we had pallets of furniture and upholstery making their way through the Suez Canal on their way to Australia yes that's right Australia

Lynne and David just dropped into our workshop one day last year, as they were spending some time in the area. Anyway long story short, it wasn't long before we had discussed their camper requirements back in Oz, and we'd made plans to build, ship our furniture & upholstery.

It is lovely to see some great shots of our work in a camper so far away from our little workshop in Burscough. Many thanks to you both for sharing your camping photos with us, and best wishes for the future.

Diane, Mike and the Camper Shak team.

T4 / T5 Roof Fitting

Thursday, October 30th, 2014

Were very pleased to announce that we will be able to enhance your T4 / T5 camper fit outs with a new luxury “Austop” elevating roof and upper bed.

After working closely with Max & the team at “Austop Elevating Roofs “ we decided to begin with our own T5 camper, and after a full training session at the Austop workshops this week, I and the team performed a partial fit, with the balance of the project to be conducted at the Camper Shak workshops with our own team.

Thanks to John, Max & Steve for your time spent with me during the training session, we can’t wait to get the final fitting done, and the important final trimming inside to compliment our campers new classy looks….then the interior can be re-fitted, and away we go.

T25 Cruiser Completed

Friday, October 10th, 2014

The biggest challenge of this project was to design a classy yet functional 3 seater rear bench seat from the old bed mech which would be fit for a limo, but yet retain its ability to turn into a bed for the night. This meant going to the drawing board and creating something very unique indeed.

Once we had cracked the design it was time to manufacture the various components and begin fitting our creation into the camper.

Have a look at the complete project on our Facebook page.

Bluebell is stripped bare.

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Ben joins the Shak

Friday, July 4th, 2014

We are very pleased to announce that “Ben Wilkinson”, has joined the Camper Shak team on our first apprenticeship scheme. Working closely with the National Apprenticeship offices we have shaped a 2-year training programme for young Ben, who joined us this week and will commence day release courses for bench joinery & upholstery at Preston College in September.

Ben said to Diane & I during his interview “that this would be his dream job”, as Ben at 16 is very, very lucky to have his own bay window camper “Rita” that both he & his Dad are restoring.

“Vintage Travel”

Friday, July 4th, 2014

Inspired by my old 1920’s travel suitcase we have come up with a new retro look to a Camper Shak favourite, and were calling this piece “Vintage Travel”.

We’ve done our best in the Camper Shak Lab to recreate a stack of period vintage luggage……that looks ready to load onto a paddle steamer or the Orient Express.

But wait what’s this when you open up the top case, you uncover your modern double burner & grill, and in the lower trunk section is your gas bottle & food stowage. Opening the smaller middle case you discover your handy wide drawer.

All this has been hand crafted using a leather textured exterior finish & lighter contrasting internal finish. Both have been laminated onto super lightweight substrate, which has created an incredibly strong carcass…..…..but only 13.5mm thick.

Swing-out-Cooker

Sunday, April 13th, 2014

We've been at it again in the Camper Shak Laboratory over the past few weeks, and our very pleased to show you our new "Swing-out-Cooker.

Working with a local engineering company we have designed a sturdy powder-coated mech that will allow your cooker to swivel out from the inside of the camper, allowing a little alfresco dining....check out the first of our little video clips.

We have been at our current address at unit 7 since 2008, and as we begin our eighth year in business we are moving to our new home in unit 4. So in some respects you could say “We’ve been at odds”…..”But now were getting even”.

All the Camper Shak team are very excited about the move and we are busy getting things ready to transfer across to our new home in a couple of weeks. We plan to publicise the business properly when we have settled in and we can plan for our future…….watch this space.

For Sale

Sunday, August 4th, 2013

Daisy our 1980’s Moonraker

Well we have owned Daisy since 2006 and have spent some good times in her, we have toured around Scotland even venturing across to the Isle of Arran and visiting the Mull of Kintyre.

To spending lovely times around Ireland travelling from Liverpool to Dublin…in fact our entire tour is featured on the website “Camper Trips”.

When I cycled from the Eiffel Tower to the Blackpool Tower my friend met me with Daisy south of Reigate and we spent the week working our way up through the country…..fantastic. We’d have breakfast I would cycle 50 miles then meet up for lunch, check out where to stay for the night, my mate Phil would travel on ahead and I’d do another 50 miles and meet up for a splash up tea.

But with pressure of work and family life Daisy is not being used at all, in fact she has been in dry store for over 18 months…….and we think its time to say farewell to this lovely camper.

We have owned Daisy for 7 years now and during all that time she has been dry stored, she was restored with some welding and a new coat of paint back in 2007, and she’s still looking good.

For some time Daisy was our show camper and as such he was given our best interior to show off what we could do. We have changed her interior three times, the last being in 2011.

Sunrise shines on the Shak

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

Well we have completed “Sunrise” and she is back with her owner Anthony, who has got a unique piece of motor craft artwork. Anthony brief was to create something that has never been seen before in a camper.

Well after sending a pencil sketch across for approval Anthony was pleased with our initial ideas to create a unique “Sunrise” design with 3d sunrise door panels, and Austrian mountain scenery to compliment the theme of this very special camper

The only challenge now was to turn our pencil sketches into reality……and the greater consideration was how would we achieve this with everything hand crafted in Poppy Red Leather.

Our thanks to Anthony for letting our creative juices flow with this very challenging but rewarding project. Check out the gallery for all the amazing shots

T25 city down at the Shak

So our new hand crafted bellows feature your own design, printed in a background colour to harmonize with your camper. So far we have fitted two sets on our latest campers to enter the Shak…but we have other excited clients waiting in the wings for more designs.

With our in-house fitting service we can now offer you that very unique look for your camper….all under one roof. For more information please contact Diane in sales.

Doris is a special girl on the Day

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

Nicky & Tracy made the journey up from London the other weekend to be re-united with Doris, and they were delighted with the transformation undertaken at the Shak & Creative.

With a set of new hand crafted bellows up top, roof refurbishment, hammocks etc…the whole dormobile roof is now 100%.

Inside Nicky wanted a contrast to our traditional wood grains, so after some thought we came up with a sculptured work top to show off their smev unit…all which was finished in a high cream gloss & lacquer to provide a durable long lasting surface.

Check out the gallery for the entire story

Bert is Beautiful

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Dan was re-united with Bert the other week and was delighted with his transformation, we hand crafted his furniture from Macassar to offer a really distinctive look that Dan & Faye were after.

To offer a real contrast to the carcass colour Bert was the first camper to feature our brand new lightweight worktops. We have developed the 40mm worktop in house, which is incredibly light yet offers that heavy look which is very much in vogue at the moment.

With his Smev unit sunk into the kitchen section we continued the worktop along the Main store which lifts to reveal access to the lower storage.

And the icing on the cake was the contrasting upholstery hand crafted in a heavy leather look material. Check out the gallery for all the shots.

Juice gets Fruity

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

Matthew & Kath were reunited with Juice the other weekend and were delighted with their new interior trimming, for all the shots check out the gallery.

So thanks to Andy, Stuart, Wendy, John & Steve for all your hard work…and not forgetting Ben who’s never far away from anything that’s going on.

We have just got to hand craft the hood when we have a little more time, check out the gallery for more detailed shots

Restoration & Spraying services

Friday, February 17th, 2012

We are very pleased to announce the launch of The Camper Shak “Classic Restoration Services”. This has been on the cards for some time now as we seek to expand our range of services to our clients.

To ensure the continuity of a full camper project from restoration, spraying, furniture design/ fitting, bellows, headlining, upholstery, electrics etc, we thought it would be beneficial to have the entire project under the control of one Company.

Some of our clients over previous years suffered great delays from restorers which have impacted on their planned arrival dates at the Shak. So in our countries Olympic year we thought it appropriate to set ourselves some Olympic challenges for the future.

We have taken additional space at the business park and have created a dedicated restoration area, incorporating a fully equipped spray booth. Combined with this we have acquired the necessary equipment and appointed skilled personnel to meet this exciting new challenge.

As you can see in the shot we have already begun work on Parsley our convertible beetle, with two client’s campers waiting in the wings for their restoration projects to begin.

A new dedicated section of the website is under construction for the future…so watch this space. For more information please contact Diane & the team in sales

T4,T5 Tidy

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

We are very pleased to announce the launch of our latest new product “The T4 & T5 storage Tidy”. This product was developed after we had a few nights away in our own T5, both Diane & myself have been campers for years and we know from experience that storage space is a luxury not to be missed.

When your out & about in your camper the need to have regular items close to hand is key to getting sorted quickly. Rather than having to search in a cupboard for the kitchen roll, or rescue the rubbish bag from drifting around the floor.

Working with our heavy duty canvas range of we came up with a storage system that wraps around your headrest fittings, and tucks away at the bottom to follow the contour of the seat back. This ensures that when loaded with possessions the tidy stays in place.

To enhance the appearance of the product we introduced some contrast detailing from our Beachcomber range of waterproof fabrics. With so many colours of Canvas & Beachcomber fabrics to choose from you can really make your T4,T5 Tidy unique.

Check out the gallery opposite for more shots.

Please contact Diane in sales for more information.

Vikings navigate from Norway

The three pals Jan, Joran & Stien landed at the Shak in bright spring sunshine after their long drive over from Norway. We had been in communication with Jan & Joran for some time discussing their camper projects.

It was a relief to find their journey over land and sea had gone without a hitch, and they had found their way across from Immingham near Grimsby to the Camper Shak in Lancashire.

So while both their campers are in the workshop being transformed from empty shells into day vans, the trio from Norway are exploring the U.K. in Daisy our four berth hire camper.

Joyce & Tony were re-united with Dora last Saturday, and were delighted with her new look. Between them they had chosen a bold internal colour combination of Mussel for the main body of the furniture, with contrasting lids in textured Zebrano.

To compliment their flashy furniture Creative Trimmings started by dressing their entire roof canopy and upper bed boards with new carpeting. With this complete we could then hand craft a complete suite of Exclusive doorcards, RnR lower bed cushions, Wide Buddy & clip on stool cushions & large upper bed cushions within the newly trimmed canopy. All hand crafted on site in Dune with Grey Friar fluted inserts.

To finish off their tired brown cab seats were stripped down to the frame, re-painted then re-built and upholstered in Dune with Grey friar fluted inserts & piping to match their fabulous new interior.

Curves come to The Camper Shak

Monday, December 21st, 2009

We are pleased to announce that Curves have arrived at The Camper Shak. Our latest bespoke furniture design used in Lindsay’s & Grahams Nissan interior features a curved kitchen and storage unit.

When we were given their Nissan Largo Highway Star and asked to come up with a piece of furniture that would provide both storage and a cooking area it seemed only natural to introduce a few curves into the design.

This new design has taken many hours of development from the drawing board to final furniture production, and when Lindsay & Graham viewed the mock-up they gave us the thumbs up to produce the real piece hand crafted in Matfen Chestnut.

With their RnR bed in place it seemed only natural to utilise the rear of the vehicle to create a bespoke cooking and storage area. It was a tight squeeze to get everything in, but by using our new curves we have managed to house the gas bottle, provide a double burner & grill with double access storage underneath, and to accompany we have a 20 litre thermo cooler with top and bottom storage features.

With Creative Trimmings providing the finishing touches with a Superior set of bed cushions, the newly appointed Largo is ready for the highway, with many trips ahead.

Bluebell comes to the rescue

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Graham & Kelly were destined to have a December wedding at Samlesbury Hall near Preston. But their plans for the bride & bridesmaids arriving in a bay window camper came under threat when their scheduled vehicle hit major engine problems.

They had seen Bluebell at the Busfreeze show in November, and being a regular customer of John‘s at 81av it wasn’t long before enquiries were being made about the possibility of The Camper Shak helping out.

When we heard on Friday of Graham & Kelly’s plight we were only too pleased to assist, and arrangements were made to put things right. So with everything in place and Samlesbury Hall decorated with a covering of snow the scene was set for a memorable day for their wedding.

Kelly’s Mother and the bridesmaids were the first to arrive from the lodge house in Bluebell, and everyone looked fabulous against the backdrop of the Hall and the snow scene. Then with the girls safely inside warming in front of the open log fire, it was time for Bluebell to deliver Kelly and her Father.

I’m sure you will agree that Kelly looked beautiful sat alongside her proud Father, we offer Graham & Kelly the very best wishes for their new life together

New Westy style roof fitting

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

We have recently fitted a brand new Westy style roof on Norison, a bay window camper from Edinburgh. The roof was supplied by O’Connor’s in Devon and was delivered right to the Shak for us to undertake the fitting for our clients.

This new roof section was to replace the historic Pop Top and create a large double bed along with a forward luggage rack.

The whole operation involved everyone from The camper Shak & Creative Trimmings team, with firstly removing the old roof then cutting new aperture for the new roof mechanism.

With this in place it was then over to Creative to re-do the headlining and upper trimming.

If you would like to transform your bay window camper to a true four berth camper, then contact Diane in sales for more information

Summer is here

Friday, August 21st, 2009

We are well into the heart of our summer months…and again its been a bit of a mixed bag for us all. We were sweating at the start of July as the temperature within the workshop topped 35 degrees, and a week later we were back to rain and 15 degrees.

But when the sun shines the countryside looks wonderful, this is a shot taken from the edge of Woodend Business Park…the home of The Camper Shak & Creative Trimmings. With the business park overlooking Martin Mere wildfowl reserve there is always plenty to see.

Wherever you are planing to visit this summer in your camper we hope that you have a good trip and that our unpredictable weather shines down on us all.

With everything under one roof we have created a tall unit housing microwave, storage and thermo cooler area, with a porta buddy and mini buddy seat making a double seat for two.

It has made a significant difference having our upholstery section upstairs from the camper fitting area, this way everything can be checked for that perfect Creative fit……check out the customer gallery for the full story

New Website Launch

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Welcome to the new website for "The Camper Shak". Here you can view events which we have been to, view our past designs, and purchase products from our product range.

The Camper Shak at VWNW Tatton Park

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

Well we have just completed our first VW Show at Tatton Park. This was our first opportunity for VW enthusiast to view and examine our product range up close.

The show gave us the focus to have a number of elements finalised in readiness for our first outing. Furniture layouts were prepared, and promotional material made ready, and the final element of the weekend was the launch of the Camper Shak website.

Well after arriving on Saturday evening and setting up our trade pitch we settles down in our camper under a star strewn sky, and all looked settled for the next days show.

However the weather at first light looked a bit doubtful and it wasn\'t long before the rain started falling. Everyone was rapidly taking cover and trying to keep their sale items from the elements.

But by mid morning the weather had stabilised and people began milling around the show area. We had many people showing great interest in our own camper fitted out with Camper Shak furniture.

And we had set up a show area at the rear of the site for people to really get to grips with the product range. The feedback was very encouraging with all of our 200 pricing detail sheets gone before lunch. (need to have much more next time)

Some folks seemed astonished that we could offer the furniture range in several wood colour tones, and we have arranged to send some out to potential clients for specific colour matchings.

So after a long day we eventually got home around 7.00pm, was it worth it? You bet. It was hard work getting everything ready for our first show, but the comments have been extremely encouraging and uplifting.

Thanks to everyone who visited us at the Camper Shak stand, it was lovely meeting you.

I hope that we offered you some interesting possibilities for your camper.
